Mechanical students absorb "Mech is dead" every placement season, then either freeze or spray-apply to random software roles. Core isn't gone — design, manufacturing, EV, HVAC, and plant roles still hire — but they hire evidence of ownership: CAD with constraints, a failure you redesigned, a club vehicle subsystem, or a manufacturing process you improved. A résumé of software buzzwords with zero Mech artifact usually loses both tracks. Pick one modern lean (EV, automation, simulation, or production) and show a project that proves it. The myth to kill is that the branch decides; the work you can defend decides.
