Petroleum Engineering
Upstream energy engineering — reservoirs, drilling, production, and plant-adjacent process work.
Where this leads
The confusion, addressed honestly
Petroleum hiring is cyclical, so students panic that the degree is a trap whenever oil prices dip. Upstream titles aren't the only outlet: process, safety, production data, and energy-adjacent plant roles value the same fundamentals. A résumé that only waits for "petroleum engineer" openings is fragile; one that shows reservoir/production calculations, HSE thinking, or data work on field readings is adaptable. Higher studies and adjacent ChemE paths are valid hedges. Plan for cycles — build portable evidence, not identity glued to one hiring boom.
