The confusion, addressed honestly
Cybersecurity students collect certs (CompTIA, CEH-style courses) and still get filtered because résumés read like keyword lists. SOC, appsec, and network-defense hiring looks for judgment: a lab writeup, a CTF path you documented, a misconfiguration you found and fixed, or a threat model for a real app. "Passionate about cybersecurity" without artifacts is a red flag in this field. Certifications can open doors; they don't replace reproducible practice. Publish careful notes — what you tried, what failed, what you'd do differently — that's the signal.
